"Born in Switzerland in 1924, Sabine Weiss turned to photography at a very young age and bought her first camera at the age of twelve. In 1942, she apprenticed at the Boissonnas workshop in Geneva. Four years later, she moved to Paris and became the assistant to fashion photographer, Willy Maywald. She married in 1950 with the American painter Hugh Weiss and frequented the art world after the war. In 1952, Robert Doisneau spotted her and brought her into the Rapho agency. In 1955, Edward Steichen chose three of his photographs for the exhibition he organized at the Museum of Modern Art in New York "The Family of Man". Sabine Weiss never ceases to photograph alternating fashion, advertising, reports and more personal work according to her peregrinations."
