Paris, Librairie de Firmin-Didot et Cie, 1876 - Publisher’s half red morocco binding, boards in red percaline titled and richly adorned with a broad composition representing on the upper board a banner and at the bottom of it a sword and a quill joined in a circular medallion, on the back board, in the center there is a shield with a crowned sword and two fleurs-de-lis, the spine is titled and decorated, all edges gilded, corner pieces and guards illustrated with the same shield as the back board and with gold fleurs-de-lis on a dark blue background, XII + 556 pages, quarto size (21 x 29 cm) - Second edition with a very large number of engravings in black in the text and full-page + 14 chromolithographs hors texte in color, with serpents, but the fold-out color map is missing -
Condition: signs of wear may appear due to age, the binding is worn, the spine is loose, the corners are worn and there may be some scattered foxing on certain pages.
