AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Decorative and unusual original Lampe Berger from France, presumably dating from the 1960s to 1970s.

Particularly appealing is the distinctive ceramic body with vertical relief texture and a visually crafted, woven-like top finish reminiscent of wickerwork. The iridescent glaze in cream, brown and caramel tones gives the lamp a very characteristic vintage look.

The combination of geometric form, relief ceramic and warm glaze fits superbly with the interior design aesthetics of the mid-century/vintage era and makes the piece an attractive decorative and collectible object, even apart from its original function.

The metal frame bears the imprint “MADE IN FRANCE.” The characteristic perforated metal cap is also present.

Lampe Berger traces back to the catalytic lamp system developed by Maurice Berger at the end of the 19th century. The French lamps were offered over the decades with numerous decorative vessels and ceramic bodies.

The exact manufacturer of the ceramic body or the model designation could not be determined beyond reasonable doubt. Therefore, deliberately no further manufacturer attribution is provided.

On the underside there is an embossed ceramic mark, see detail photo.

The burner and wick are clearly used with age and have not been tested for functionality. Before reusing, they should be checked and replaced if necessary. The lamp is therefore primarily offered as a historical decorative and collectible object.
