Wilhem Raab (1907-1989) - Im Hambachtal

Oil painting “Im Hambachtal” by the artist Wilhelm Raab (* October 8, 1907; † August 6, 1989). Format 49 x 32 cm. Unframed, but with mat 65 x 50 cm.
The artist was a German painter, scientific illustrator and graphic artist. Raab’s work consists of landscapes, especially watercolors, pastels, gouaches and tempera paintings, as well as numerous drawings, mainly genre scenes, portraits and socially critical sketches from his hometown of Frankfurt am Main and the surrounding area. He is particularly valued for his works that document the damage to Frankfurt during World War II.
His works have been exhibited in solo exhibitions in Frankfurt in the 1970s and 1980s, including at the Historical Museum, as well as internationally in many group exhibitions of Frankfurt artists in Washington D.C., Paris, Cairo and Shanghai. They have also won several awards, including the Study Prize of the Heussenstamm Foundation in 1977.

My husband (gallerist and art dealer) loved his work very much, and out of regional attachment (he comes from the Taunus and lived and worked in Frankfurt for a long time) built up an opulent collection. After his death I am now looking for individual interested parties.

The accompanying oil painting with the motif “Im Hambachtal” could be exactly such a case. It is unframed and, at 49 x 32 cm, nicely suited for hanging. Raab visited the Hunsrück in April 1980. At that time the painting must have been created. It is offered with a passepartout—although this is actually unnecessary for an oil painting.
