Mattheus Johannes Marie (Matthieu) Wiegman was born in Zwolle on May 31, 1886 and died in Bergen (NH) on April 5, 1971.
Education at the Rijksakademie voor Beeldende Kunst in Amsterdam. Student of August Allebé, Antoon Derkinderen and André Vlaanderen. Teacher of, among others, Jaap Min.
Lived and worked in Bergen from 1909-1912, in various places in France from 1922-1927, again in Bergen from 1930-1971.
Member of the Hollandse Aquarellisten Kring and the Hollandse Kunstenaars Kring.
Belongs to the movement of the "Bergense School".
Created flower still lifes, nude figures, Christian religious subjects, cityscapes and landscapes.

Mattheus Johannes Marie (Matthieu) Wiegman werd geboren te Zwolle op 31 mei 1886 en overleed te Bergen (N-H) op 5 april 1971.
Opleiding aan de Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunst te Amsterdam. Leerling van August Allebé, Antoon Derkinderen en André Vlaanderen. Leraar van o.a. Jaap Min.
Woonde en werkte in Bergen van 1909-1912, op diverse plaatsen in Frankrijk van 1922-1927, weer in Bergen van 1930-1971.
Lid van de Hollandse Aquarellisten Kring en de Hollandse Kunstenaars Kring.
Behoort tot de stroming van de "Bergense School".
Maakte bloemstillevens, naaktfiguren, christelijk religieuze voorstellingen, stadsgezichten en landschappen.
