Description from the seller
Anton Vrede – colorful figurative painting with animals
Special and expressive painting by the Dutch artist Anton Vrede (Willemstad, Curaçao, 1953).
The work shows a group of stylized animals in a characteristic, colorful composition. The scene is built up from bold brushstrokes and contrasting shades of blue, yellow, pink, gray and black. The animals seem to blend into one another, creating a dynamic and almost dreamlike whole.
The painting strongly aligns with the well-known body of work of Anton Vrede. In his work, animals – including elephants, apes, hares, giraffes and other exotic animals – play an important role. His style is described as expressionist figurative, sometimes abstracting, with a loose and painterly touch. (Galerie Rotor)
On the back of the canvas there is a clear handwritten inscription “Anton Vrede”, followed by “87.” In addition, an old card is attached to the back on which, among other things, “ANTON VREDE”, “Animals on canvas” and a price of ƒ 1500,- are legible. This forms an interesting additional provenance indication.
The work is executed on canvas and provided with a dark wooden frame.
