Description from the seller
David Law
Photographer-Artist – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographic artist, author and musician, David Law develops a body of work centered on gaze, presence and perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. He was then drawn to the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, extending this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling presence, almost alive, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Echo Waves / Echo Visions - A new reading of cultural icons
The Echo Waves / Echo Visions series offers a contemporary re-reading of cultural icons through an immersive and vibrant pop art aesthetic. Each work rests on a mosaic construction made of thousands of micro-graphic compositions. From afar, the image reveals a recognizable figure, while up close it reveals a wealth of visual details. Each fragment acts as a “wave,” evoking the artistic universe of the subject represented. The creation process is long and demanding, requiring precision and mastery of graphic tools. A thorough amount of work is carried out on colors, light and the overall harmony of the image. Everything is created in an original and independent manner.
Edition & Fabrication
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are realized on aluminium with an integrated rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminium plates, with soft UV- and moisture-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great long-term color stability and a modern and contemporary rendering.
Career
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also a photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops an authorial and musician career including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photography book and 5 self-produced CDs. Lead singer and guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
