Description from the seller

Extremely Rare Art Deco Porcelain Tea/Coffee Set for 5 — Rosenthal "Madeleine", Hand-Painted & Signed by Georg Alexander Mathéy, c. 1928
An exceptional, museum-quality collector’s find. This avant-garde Art Deco porcelain set features five trios/tea pairs crafted on the famous "Madeleine" blank by the prestigious German manufacturer Rosenthal (Bavaria). Each piece features an incredibly bold, geometric, and sunburst hand-painted pattern designed and executed by the renowned German modernist artist, graphic designer, and architect Georg Alexander Mathéy (1884–1968). Mathéy’s iconic collaboration with Rosenthal peaked around 1928, making this ensemble a stellar representative of the late 1920s European avant-garde movement.Key Highlights for Collectors:Authentic Artist Signature: Every single set features the hand-painted overglaze signature "Mathéy" on the bottom, proving direct artist involvement rather than mass factory transfer.Unique Studio Process: One of the cups features three vertical colored test brushstrokes next to the factory mark — a fascinating, authentic trace of the artist testing pigment reaction and firing density in the studio.Lustre Finish: The inner bowls of the cups feature a stunning, iridescent pearlescent/lustre glaze that beautifully reflects light. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. No chips, cracks, or restorations. Minimal age-related wear to the hand-painted glaze, consistent with age and delicate cabinet display.]Lot Details:Manufacturer: Rosenthal (Bavaria, Germany) Form/Model: Madeleine
