Description from the seller

Antonio Genovesi
Elements of Metaphysical Disciplines, adorned in the mathematical manner
The very latest edition, revised by the author himself with all previous editions rejected and regarded as not his own, completely reformed, enriched with perpetual additions, and now for the first time divided into five volumes.
Bassani, (1779) – Venice at Remondini’s.

5 volumes in 3 octavo volumes (18 × 11.5 cm).
Pp. xxiv, 299; 396; 344; xxxii, 336, XIV; XVI, 447.

Contemporary binding in full marbled leather with gilded titles and ornaments on the spines; minor signs of time on the binding, interiors fresh and well preserved.

Complete work of the famous definitive edition, revised and greatly expanded by the same Antonio Genovesi (1713-1769), professor of Ethics and then of Economics at the University of Naples.
The treatise presents, in rigorously systematic and “mathematical” form, the foundations of metaphysics (ontology, cosmology, natural theology, rational psychology), integrating the scholastic tradition with the new Enlightenment concerns and the Cartesian and Leibnizian criticisms.

A particularly rare and sought edition: it is the first to be divided into five volumes and represents the author’s last will, in which he introduced substantial corrections and unpublished additions. It documents one of the high points of Neapolitan philosophy in the eighteenth century and constitutes a standard reference for the study of eighteenth-century Italian metaphysics.

Excellent complete specimen, suitable for philosophy collections and high-level antiquarian bookselling.
