Two Art Deco Ufo table lamps in good used condition, made in France circa 1960–1970, with chrome and steel stem and an opaline glass shade, 50 cm high, 30 cm wide and 30 cm deep, and in working order.
Description from the seller
A particularly decorative table lamp in Art Deco / Streamline style, featuring an imposing white opal glass shade and an elegant metal base. The combination of softly, organically shaped glass with the sleek metal column gives this lamp a stylish look that strongly recalls the design of the Art Deco and early modernist period.
The most eye-catching part of the lamp is undoubtedly the large opal glass shade. It has a wide, flattened form with flowing, rounded lines. From the narrower lower portion the glass gracefully extends outward to a broad, almost dish-shaped shade. The opening at the top not only creates an interesting silhouette, but also allows part of the light to escape upward.
When the lamp is switched on, the opal glass comes beautifully to life. The white glass changes to a warm cream-yellow hue and softly disperses light over the entire shade. This creates a pleasant, atmospheric illumination without a harsh direct light source. The various photos show the lamp from multiple angles, both lit and unlit, so the shape and light distribution are clearly visible.
Metal base and detailing
The shade rests on a metal, goblet-shaped holder, which transitions via a small decorative connector into the long cylindrical column. It is this subtle profiling that gives the design a classic and refined appearance.
The long, slender metal stem ends at the bottom again in a profiled connector and stands on a wide, round metal base. The base is gently curved and provides a stable footing for the relatively large glass shade.
The metal has a subdued silver/steel color finish. The combination of this cool metal tone with the milky opal glass gives the lamp a timeless look.
Art Deco / Streamline appearance
The design is characterized by a combination of geometric simplicity, symmetry, and flowing lines. In particular, the wide glass shade and the elongated metal base give the lamp a pronounced Art Deco / Streamline character.
Because of its design, the lamp easily complements different interior styles. In a classic or vintage interior it forms a suitably historic accent, while the simple shapes and neutral materials also suit a modern, minimalist, or eclectic interior.
Even when the lamp is not lit, it remains an attractive decorative object. When switched on, the appearance changes significantly and the large opal glass shade becomes the warm centerpiece of the room.
