About this work:
This is a photo collage. All photo's photographed by myself.
This botanical-surreal artwork invites the viewer into a world where nature and imagination seamlessly merge. At its center is a butterfly, a symbol of transformation and life, within which a hidden universe unfolds. Its forms reveal not only subtle traces of life, but also two human figures and mysterious, imaginary beings that gradually emerge to those who take the time to look closely.
The work is inspired by the idea that our planet still holds many secrets. Undiscovered insects, unknown animals, and new life forms may still be hidden within the greenery of our Earth. This concept takes visual form here: a dreamlike world that feels both familiar and intriguingly otherworldly.
The organic lines and botanical elements enhance the sense of growth and discovery. Every detail seems to breathe, as if it could come to life at any moment.
This piece is an ode to the endless creativity of nature, both seen and unseen and to the power of imagination that invites us to look beyond what first meets the eye.

Mariska was born in Suriname, South America. Originally Surinamese, Indonesian, African and a little Dutch, she grew up in the Netherlands. Raised in the beautiful Vermeerstad - Delft, living in Rembrandtlcountry Netherlands, she came into contact with Venice for a commission for a perfume brand and was deeply touched by the baroque art, architecture and history of Venice. All these influences in her life, inspired her. Mariska started to incorporate these inspirations into her own work, with influences from her life and existence.

Mariska is a fine art photographer working internationally. Her creative process is carefully constructed and highly multidisciplinary. She builds elaborate sets with great attention to detail and integrates her other artistic passions: charcoal drawing, working with gold, textiles, and advanced image editing. Every piece she creates brings all of these elements together into one cohesive expression.
In a short period of time she has won several renowned international awards including the PX3 Prix de la Photographie de Paris, first place gold, in the full category of professional visual arts, Gold award Trierenberg Supercircuit - category emotions and nominated as ambassador of Tolerance. She has participated in various photo exhibitions in New York, the Netherlands, China, Poland, France, Italy and has had several museum and gallery exhibitions both nationally and internationally.
