Watercolor on paper with gouache touches. The composition features a calm water inlet in the foreground with a docked boat. Several trees dominate the scene, standing out against a cloudy sky rendered in shades of gray and cream. On the opposite shore, the shapes of a farm and other low buildings are glimpsed. The work is executed with a grayscale palette, with blues, browns and ochres.

The work is signed and titled by the artist in the lower left corner: "Ferme de la Bassée 24 fév. 69", with the signature "pierre eugène clairin". On the back there are the inventory and sale labels from Genève Enchères.

Pierre Eugène Clairin (1897-1980) was a French painter, watercolorist and lithographer, a pupil of Cormon, known for his landscapes depicting the French countryside and river scenes. The piece is in excellent condition and is protected under glass.

For shipping the glass will be removed; it rarely arrives intact and its breakage often risks ruining the work if you decide to take the risk, I can leave it at your own risk.

The frame visible in the photo is included in the lot as a pure gift from me and is not part of the sale; it does not determine the value and, given its fragility, is not insured. Consequently, any defects already present on the frame are not reported and any damage to it during transport will not be considered for claims or returns. The wall-mounting system may also be removed. Glass often breaks during transport and can damage the artwork. They can be removed on request at no extra cost. Please let me know if you prefer the artwork shipped without it; if not, I cannot assume responsibility.

Shipping and customs notes

The item is shipped from Geneva, Switzerland. For this reason, delivery times to European Union countries may be slightly longer than usual due to the standard customs procedures.

If the package is returned due to an incorrect address, unclaimed package, or unpaid duties, the buyer will have to pay for a second shipment and cover return costs.

I also remind you that, since Switzerland is outside the EU customs area, import taxes, local VAT and duties are fully borne by the buyer and will be collected by your country’s authorities upon delivery. I recommend informing yourself in advance to avoid surprises. Alternatively, if you have the option, in-person pickup in Geneva is always the option I prefer and strongly recommend, as it eliminates shipping costs and ensures maximum safety for the work. If shipping is chosen, I will do my best to package the piece to protect the painting during transit.
