Johann Arndt - Wahren Christenthumm - 1744

Extraordinary and imposing theological volume from the 18th century containing the complete work of the six books on "Vero Christentum" (Vom Wahren Christenthum) written by Johann Arndt, one of the most famous and influential Lutheran theologians and devotional writers in Protestant history.
This massive exemplar totals 1283 pages, housed in a compact format of about 18 x 11 cm.
Strengths and peculiarities of the exemplar:
Frontispiece: Printed with great refinement in two colors (red and black ink), bearing the place of printing (Schaffhausen) and the date (1744).
Iconographic apparatus: The volume opens with a fine full-length engraved frontispiece portraying the portrait of theologian Johann Arndt. Inside the text there are full-page copperplate/wood engravings (including the emblematic illustration depicting the organ titled "Der Eintracht Frucht").
Content: The work includes the complete composition of the six devotional books, historical prefaces, prayers, and the extensive final analytical indexes (Register).
CONDITION REPORT
Binding: Half-leather of the period, solid and compact. Classic and physiological signs of time are evident, such as light abrasions on the boards and on the ends of the spine, but the structure remains robust and the hinges are firm.
Interior: The block of pages is tight. Physiological foxing, browning, and evident era-related humidity stains on some pages (particularly on the margins of the frontispiece and the flyleaves), which however do not compromise readability of the text or the beauty of the engravings.
Page edges: The page cuts retain a vivid and elegant antique red tint.
