Gustav Adolf Ast, called Guschi, was born on 31 August 1905 in Hamburg. He began training in 1923 at the LKS School Hamburg. He became a member of the Hamburg artists' group Niederelbe founded in 1929 and of the HKü. From 1934 to 46 he repeatedly stayed in Finland. During the war years he was friendly with Gerda Böse. After the war he worked as a press designer and political text author for Hamburger Echo and Hamburger Abendblatt. In 1969 he settled in Neu-Ulm. Died 1989 in Neu-Ulm.
NS era: in 1937 one of his watercolors “Still Life with Fruit” was confiscated by the HK as degenerate art and later destroyed. In 1943 several hundred works were destroyed in his studio by bombing.
