Description from the seller
19th-century altar or table crucifix (French manufacture in the Napoleonic III style / late 19th century), characterized by a shaped and carved wooden cross.
Presence of the Arma Christi (the Instruments of the Passion carved at the base and sides of the cross, such as the ladder, the tongs, and the lictor).
Corpus Christi in gilded brass and ornamental plates in pierced brass typical of European folk sacred art of that period.
Wood type: Walnut wood, which at the time was the premier precious wood used for domestic furnishings and sacred objects, preferred for its excellent resistance to pests and for the ease of carving compared to oak.
Base in spruce or ash wood.
Dimensions: 41 x 19 cm
Condition and state of preservation: A small broken piece + a glued crack (see the last 2 photos) Original patina: The metal and wood show the patina of age, which should not be removed with aggressive cleaning so as not to erase the historical value.
