Description from the seller

Auctioned as a large material painting titled “Maremma,” dated 1995, attributed to the Roman painter Mario Martini (1931–2007).

The painting measures 94x74 cm with frame. (80x60 cm the work without frame).

The piece has a strong decorative impact: a Maremma buffalo in the foreground, rendered with a thick and vibrant painting, immersed in the warm tones of the countryside and in a sky animated by clouds worked in relief. The surface is incredibly rich in material and marks, with evident brushstroke/impasto passages that create a very scenographic three-dimensional effect.

The name Mario Martini is linked to the Roman artistic milieu of the late 20th century: a self-taught painter, close to the atmosphere of Via Margutta and the Piazza del Popolo area, known for immediate and communicative painting, often devoted to landscapes, views, and atmospheres. Here the artist expresses his chromatic sensibility in a powerful “earth” scene, with a highly present painterly material.
