(Ecki Heuser, Cologne, Germany).

Offering some of the BEST PHOTOBOOKS WORLDWIDE - from my private collection and from recent acquisitations.

GREAT, EARLY TITLE from 1978 (!) by legendary Mexican photographer Manuel Alvarez Bravo (1902-2002).

Manuel Alvarez Bravo is one of the most important figures in 20th century Latin American photography.

"Alvarez Bravo has preferred photography to painting. It is possible that he may be right. In his work he arrives at conclusions which before him nobody in Mexico dared to imagine."
- Diego Rivera, 1930 -

WITH THE ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET.

VERY FRESH CONDITION.

5Uhr30.com guarantees detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% protection,
100% insurance and combined shipping worldwide.

Travelling Light, London. 1978.

First English edition, first printing (there was also an American edition same time by David R. Godine, Boston Massachusetts; The Corcoran Gallery Of Art Washington, D.C.)

Hardcover with dustjacket. 225 x 285 mm. 130 pages. 82 photos in black and white and color by Manuel Alvarez Bravo. Edited by Jane Livingtston. With an essay by Alex Castro and documentation by Frances Fralin. Text in English.

Condition:
Book inside and outside excellent, clean with no previous owner marks and with no foxing; fresh and flawless, excepted trace of deleted tape on first and last blank page (the dustjacket was protected by a plastic jacket before and fixed at these pages). Dustjacket very fresh and well-preserved; complete with no tears, with no taped tears and with no missing parts; sunned (like always) at the spine and at the top edge of the front (seems to be a production/material problem). Overall fine, much better and fresher than usual condition.

Great book by Manuel Alvarez Bravo with the original dustjacket - in wonderful fresh condition.

Manuel Álvarez Bravo was born and raised in Mexico City. While he took art classes at the Academy of San Carlos, his photography is self-taught. His career spanned from the late 1920s to the 1990s with its artistic peak between the 1920s and 1950s. His hallmark as a photographer was to capture images of the ordinary but in ironic or Surrealistic ways. His early work was based on European influences, but he was soon influenced by the Mexican muralism movement and the general cultural and political push at the time to redefine Mexican identity. He rejected the picturesque, employing elements to avoid stereotyping. He had numerous exhibitions of his work, worked in the Mexican cinema and established Fondo Editorial de la Plástica Mexicana publishing house. He won numerous awards for his work, mostly after 1970. His work was recognized by the UNESCO Memory of the World registry in 2017.
