CANNED Biography
Canned is a French artist duo formed by Charlotte Parenteau-Denoël and Mofart’z. Their work rests on the stencil technique, which they boldly subvert to create striking, minimalist, and conceptual images. Their compositions, often in black and white but sometimes enhanced with vivid colors, blend visual humor, social critique, and everyday poetry.
Their artistic approach is what they call “Brain Art”: art that provokes thought through imagery. Each work offers a double reading, combining the immediate impact of a strong visual with a subtle idea, sometimes absurd or paradoxical. The titles – often in English – fully participate in this dynamic, adding another dimension to the reading.
Charlotte comes from a dual background in art history and interior architecture. Mofart’z has worked as a set designer for cinema. This complementarity feeds their shared universe, where graphic rigor, staging, and visual culture intertwine.
Their common aim is to subvert the codes and symbols of a hyperindustrialized and hyper-consumerist society, turning them on their heads in satire. Their art, eclectic in technique (painting, drawing, sculpture, photography…), remains faithful to a pared-down, conceptual visual style.
Canned develops a distinctive language, at the border between street art and contemporary art, accessible and intelligent, in which the image both makes you smile and prompts questions. They exhibit and sell alongside works by renowned artists such as Blek le Rat, Shepard Fairey (Obey), Banksy, Mr Brainwash, and many others.
