Natural Corundum
****Variety: Ruby - native to the Afghan valleys, near the Panjshir mining sites, these corundums whose chromium—the factor distinguishing sapphire as a jewel—are much rarer than ruby, and highly prized in fine jewelry.
Their natural characteristics, with no treatments whatsoever, attract a growing number of enthusiasts and collectors of rare and precious stones.
****Afghan rubies are, today, commonly heat-treated to increase clarity and enhance their color toward deep tones due to their high iron content. Untreated rarities like this jewel here, the lot of this sale, are therefore an investment-grade not to be missed.
Color: Intense red with deep tones, high saturation blending Red, Purple, and Pink, with a faint "Blue flare"—undoubtedly the most beautiful shade for a collection ruby.

Cut: Oval, Brilliant-cut
Careful polishing, preserving with care the proportions of this gem, among the last still possible to find.
