Description from the seller
BUGANVILLEA
90 × 70 cm
Acrylic on canvas · 2026
Buganvilla presents an open courtyard where architecture and vegetation build a space of calm and brightness. A large tree occupies much of the composition and stretches its canopy over the scene, while a succession of blue arches guides the gaze toward the exterior. In the background, a pinkish bougainvillea introduces the principal chromatic contrast and stands out against a yellow stripe and the blue of the horizon.
The work is articulated through an intense relationship between light and shadow. Deep blues and purples that traverse the ground contrast with the illuminated surfaces and with the greens of the vegetation, generating a rhythm of patches and reflections that adds depth to the scene. The pots, the arches, and the small hanging lamp reinforce the intimate character of the courtyard, while the opening toward the horizon visually expands the space and suggests continuity beyond the architecture.
PROJECTING THE WORK’S VALUE
Bougainvillea is part of Mar Legón’s research on courtyards, gardens, and open architectures—spaces where vegetation and light transform the perception of the surroundings. In this piece, the artist builds a scene where architectural elements serve as a transition between the courtyard’s intimacy and the vastness of the exterior landscape.
Made entirely by hand in 2026, this unique piece gathers elements characteristic of her recent production: an intense color palette, synthesized forms, defined light-dark contrasts, and a special attention to the relationship between architecture and nature. The presence of bougainvillea, located at the back of the composition, functions as a visual attraction point and provides a delicate contrast between pinks, greens, and blues.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mar Legón develops a painting practice centered on reinterpreting landscapes, interiors, still lifes, and figurative scenes through a visual language based on color, formal synthesis, and atmosphere construction.
Her work transforms recognizable spaces and motifs into images of strong visual intensity, where reality is simplified and reorganized to give rise to scenes that oscillate between memory, imagination, and contemplation.
