Description from the seller
RED STAIRS
90 × 70 cm
Acrylic on canvas · 2026
Red Stairs presents an architectural space dominated by a red staircase that rises diagonally, shaping the entire composition. The structure is cut against a turquoise wall and leads toward a door at the top, while a second dark opening appears on the middle plane. On both sides, large pots with greenery introduce organic forms that soften the geometry of the whole, and in the foreground a sheet of water reflects the colors of the architecture and the plants.
The work is articulated through very defined contrasts between turquoises, purples, reds, greens, and yellows. The staircase’s diagonal creates rhythm and depth, while the white of the railing establishes a clean line that separates and connects the different planes. Reflections on the water transform these architectural shapes into freer, more fluid blotches, creating a visual tension between structure and movement.
PROJECTION AND VALUE OF THE WORK
Red Stairs is part of Mar Legón’s research on transit spaces, courtyards, and open architectures, where stairs, doors, and thresholds function as devices to build movement and depth. In this piece, the staircase takes on a leading role and makes ascent the visual and conceptual axis of the work.
Made entirely by hand in 2026, this unique piece gathers some of the distinctive traits of the artist’s recent production: an intense chromatic palette, formal simplification, clearly defined light contrasts, and a close relationship between architecture, vegetation, and water. The work transforms a daily space into a composition with great graphical strength, where geometry and color build a precise and recognizable atmosphere.
ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mar Legón develops a painting practice focused on reinterpretation of landscapes, interiors, still lifes, and figurative scenes through a visual language based on color, formal synthesis, and atmosphere construction.
Her work transforms recognizable spaces and motifs into images of strong visual intensity, where reality is simplified and reorganized to give rise to scenes that oscillate between memory, imagination, and contemplation.
