Description from the seller
About the immense international Portuguese artist that Vhils is (Alexandre Farto) - (1987-) /
Internationally renowned artist, Vhils (Alexandre Farto) turns the world into a vast outdoor art gallery. In his monumental mural works as in his smaller pieces created on doors and wooden panels, Alexandre Farto, aka Vhils, combines detailed figuration with a material-based process: he attacks the surface by perforating it, sculpting it, or using chemicals such as bleach, thereby making his images (primarily portraits) inseparable from the material itself. Through this subtractive technique, Vhils blends painting and sculpture while questioning how the built environment absorbs social changes and urban development. Trained at Central Saint Martins, Vhils refined his practice as a graffiti artist; his studio today produces prints, paintings, and posters. He has exhibited in cities around the world and collaborated with numerous institutions, including the EDP Foundation in Lisbon, the Centre Pompidou, the Barbican Centre, the CAFA Art Museum and the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. He created a mural on the exterior wall of UNESCO’s façade, thereby integrating the Organization’s permanent collection of artworks, in July 2023, with the first-ever street-art panel work to be created that integrates the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris.
