With this square-format work, Medsan brings Wonder Woman, the Amazon created by William Moulton Marston for DC Comics, into Gustav Klimt’s ornamental vocabulary and his Golden Age. The composition directly cites the Viennese painter’s great Byzantine panels — Judith I, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I — with their circular halo, starry spirals, and a background saturated with motifs. Diana moves with closed eyes, surrounded by an immense cloak that almost fills the frame. At her feet lies a field of broken swords.

The rendering imitates and plays on two registers Klimt already opposed: the figure treated with a smooth, fleshy line drawing, almost a contemporary clear line, and the flattened decor, surface-level with no depth. The bottle-green cloak is covered with vegetal arabesques, ferns, star seeds, and spirals — the famous Klimt “eyes” and volutes — while the background works with ochres, copper tones and an irregularly grainy gilding effect that mimics beaten material. The eagle corset, the crown with the red star, and the lasso reprise DC iconography in this same coppery palette. Two accents of dark red, at the top and on the right, close the viewer’s eye circulation. The cartouche メドサン signs the work in the bottom right.

The mashup says one precise thing: the warrior is represented not in action but as an icon, eyes closed, above the weapons she has made useless. Klimt used ornament to sacralize his female figures; Medsan uses it here to transform a comic book heroine into an votive image. The swords shattered on the ground, treated as shards of wood and bronze, say that victory is not to be celebrated — it is to be contemplated.
