Description from the seller
ONLY ONE IN THE WORLD EXISTS - EDITION 1/1
With this vertically formatted work, Medsan places Pikachu, the electrical icon of the Pokémon franchise, at the heart of a Japanese storm print. The composition borrows from the language of landscape ukiyo-e — that of Hokusai's Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, whose snow-capped cone can be seen on the horizon — and from the tradition of Hiroshige's stormy skies. The tiny yellow silhouette, sitting alone in the tall grasses, becomes the sole saturated color point in a world of ink.
The rendering imitates the ink wash and the ink-lined outline of woodblock prints: clouds in curling spirals, tight hatching for the grasses, muted flat tones of Prussian blue and smoky gray. The lightning, traced in luminous ochre veins, structures the entire upper half and fragments the sky down to the blazing pagodas. The palette remains restrained — slate blue, smoke black, olive green of the field — and the cream background mimics the aged grain of antique paper, down to the irregular border. Two cartouches frame the scene: the title calligraphed on the left, the red cartouche signed メドサン on the right, like an publisher's seal.
The juxtaposition makes all the meaning of the piece. The creature commanding the lightning is here reduced to a ridiculous scale, a motionless spectator of a storm it may have unleashed — mythic power and childlike innocence in the same frame. The mashup transforms a global mascot into a god of thunder, a cousin of Raijin, and returns to the character a sacred dimension that animation had taken away from it.
A graphical and narrative piece, ideal for adding a contemporary print touch to a collector's interior who is devoted to both Japanese culture and pop culture. The buyer receives a unique giclée print: a pigment print on canvas mounted on a wooden frame, numbered 1/1 and hand-signed.

About the Atelier:
Atelier Joconde is a workshop of artists gathered around a living and plural contemporary creation. Set up like a true venue of artistic production, the workshop operates both in collective creation and in individual approaches, depending on projects and works. Atelier Joconde is also a family venture. Le Yack, a contemporary figurative painter, develops a narrative and introspective body of work with cinematic and realistic influences. By his side, Medsan, oriented toward pop art painting, explores color, modern iconography and visual culture. Finally, Neo Pablo is engaged in a more instinctive pursuit, blending abstract art, outsider art and figurative abstraction. Each work is conceived, produced and followed within the studio, with a shared artistic standard and an identity unique to each artist.
