With this vertical-format artwork, Medsan plunges the most recognizable silhouette of Akira—the rider in the red jacket and his streamlined motorcycle, an absolute icon of Katsuhiro Otomo's film—into a Neo-Tokyo avenue dressed like a canyon of wood and lanterns. In the background, Mount Fuji rises between skyscrapers, a direct reference to ukiyo-e and the Thirty-Six Views of Hokusai. The sky swirls as in Van Gogh’s Starry Night, and vehicles glide between signs as in Blade Runner's Los Angeles.

The rendering mimics an impasto oil: visible brushwork, thick commas in the clouds, a crust of material on the volcan’s snows. The palette contrasts a deep ultramarine with the warm amber of hundreds of lanterns and windows, the vermilion of the motorcycle cutting sharply at the foreground. The vertical signs, tiled roofs, and wooden balconies stack into a vertiginous central perspective, framed by a gilded border. In the upper right corner, the cartouche メドサン signs the scene under the banner 宇宙海賊.

The mashup speaks of the collision of two Japans: that of the prints and the sacred volcano, that of neon and racing motorcycles. The rider seen from behind, tiny against the city, reverses the blockbuster logic—the hero becomes a pedestrian again, and it is the street that dominates. All the nostalgia of 1980s cyberpunk is contained in this contrast.
