AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

SPINACH! is a 70 x 100 cm painting by Flavia Delgado that, with irony, humor, and a powerful visual charge, rescues one of the most recognizable icons of 20th-century popular culture.

The figure of the muscular sailor, historically associated with the strength gained through spinach, appears here reinterpreted through the clean, vibrant language of contemporary pop art. The character not only evokes nostalgia for old advertisements and cartoons but also recalls a time when advertising turned everyday habits into true visual manifestos.

The intense red background, aggressive typography, and caricatured exaggeration build a work with immediate, fun, and energetic readability. Flavia Delgado plays with graphic humor, but also with collective memory: we all recognize the message even before reading it.

SPINACH! functions as a poster, a vintage wink, and an ironic statement about strength, health, and consumption clichés. The painting turns a simple green leaf into an almost heroic emblem.

The artist uses a deliberately advertising aesthetics to speak about something broader: how commercial images are part of our emotional imagination and end up being small symbols of generational identity.

A fresh, nostalgic, and tremendously striking piece, where visual humor becomes the absolute protagonist.

Seller's Story

I present a pictorial work line strongly linked to illustration and artistic poster design. My works combine the language of classic poster art with the plastic freedom of contemporary painting: flat colors, defined contours, direct scenes, and a clear narrative sense. My work dialogues with the tradition of 20th-century poster art, especially with the universe of Art Deco and European and North American advertising posters, where authors like A. M.. Cassandre, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, and Leonetto Cappiello used synthetic imagery and color for visual impact. There are also affinities with European comic graphics and the clear line, from Hergé to modern editorial illustration. In my paintings, I depict interiors, architectures, figures, and travel scenes—such as roads, vintage cars, or landscapes—approached from a graphic perspective reminiscent of posters and illustrated books, but transferred to the realm of painting on paper and canvas. I aim for each image to function like a frame or a narrative poster, capable of suggesting a broader story without needing to explain it.
