Antique Louis XIV baluster candlestick in brass, dating from 1750–1800 and bearing the maker’s mark “LB”.
Description from the seller
Antique Dutch/Flemish Louis XIV Brass Baluster Candlestick – 18th Century – Maker’s Mark “LB” - Ca 1750
A handsome antique yellow-brass candlestick in the Louis XIV / Baroque tradition, probably of Dutch or Flemish origin. The heavy, finely proportioned form features a turned baluster stem, stepped octagonal foot and a faceted candle socket.
A particularly characteristic detail is the round side opening in the socket, a traditional ejection hole used to help remove a burnt-down candle or remaining wax. The stepped octagonal base gives the candlestick a strong, architectural appearance.
The underside displays authentic traces of age, hand-finishing and historic use. The base is clearly stamped with a “LB” maker’s mark.
The exterior has been carefully polished, revealing the warm golden colour of the brass while retaining attractive age character, including minor surface marks and traces of verdigris/patina inside the socket and underneath.
