White Lilies - NO RESERVE, a 2020+ Naive Art still life by Devon (1993) from the United Kingdom, executed in acrylic painting with pastel, signed and hand signed, 36 cm high by 27 cm wide, an original edition in excellent condition, dated 2026.
Description from the seller
A generous arrangement of white lilies and vivid red blooms rises from a dark, reflective vessel, surrounded by energetic green foliage. The flowers are rendered with bold, deliberately simplified contours, while the surrounding surface is animated by loose marks, looping lines and flashes of colour. Rather than pursuing botanical precision, Devon allows the bouquet to exist as an expressive accumulation of shapes, textures and gestures.
The dark vessel provides a visual anchor at the centre of the composition, its reflective surface echoing fragments of the flowers and foliage above it. Against the warm ochre ground, the intense greens, reds and whites acquire an almost electric presence.
The work is particularly compelling in the tension between structure and spontaneity. The recognisable language of the still life remains firmly present, yet the surrounding marks and unexpected colour accents push the composition towards abstraction. White Lilies ultimately becomes less a study of flowers than an exploration of energy, movement and the expressive potential of paint.
