Old Post-Impressionist Tableau - Church Landscape - Signed Verhoeven - 56 cm x 46 cm.
Oil painting on period canvas from the first half of the 20th century, depicting the apse of a village church and its Calvary under a characterful sky.
The work is in the pure tradition of Belgian and Dutch Post-Impressionist masters.
Artist: Signed at the bottom right "Verhoeven" (attributed to Jan Verhoeven, 1870 - 1941, painter of the Dutch/Flemish school).
Dimensions: 56 cm x 46 cm
Framed: No frame.
Technique: Oil on canvas with a magnificent impasto technique using knife and brush, offering striking relief and a very beautiful play of light.
Condition and authenticity: Original flax canvas with manual preparation, mounted on an antique keyed stretcher with edge fixation by pins in oxidized irons.
The paint layer shows a network of natural deep craquelure and drying cracks characteristic of the first half of the 20th century (estimated period: 1920 - 1940).
Small tear repaired from the back (see photos).
In fine: very good overall condition, healthy paint layer with a beautiful patina of time.
