With “WILD DOG,” Golden Boy continues his exploration of sculpture as a new territory for street art.
The classic silhouette of the dog is here entirely reinterpreted by a very free pictorial intervention. On a deep black base, Golden Boy overlays drips, splashes and broad passages of color: red, blue, yellow, green and white traverse the animal’s body without striving to respect its volumes.
The painting seems, on the contrary, to flow around the sculpture, as if it could dribble down a wall after an urban intervention. Each face thus becomes a different composition and makes Wild Dog a true painting in three dimensions.
The title plays on this contrast: the shape of the dog remains immediately identifiable, almost classic, while the pictorial treatment is deliberately wild, instinctive and spontaneous.
With this series of animal sculptures, Golden Boy moves his graphic language out of the canvas and the wall to inhabit the object and the volume. An evolution that preserves the defining elements of his universe: bold colors, energy of gesture and direct references to street art culture.
Golden Boy today asserts himself as one of the rising figures of the new generation of street art. According to the artist’s press materials, Banksy himself has praised his talent and meteoric rise, calling him an “asterisk of Street Art,” a nod from the master to the emergence of this new generation.
