Description from the seller
David Law
Artist Photographer – Creator of contemporary images
Multidisciplinary photographer-artist, author and musician, David Law develops a body of work centered on gaze, presence and the perception of the image in urban space. He first became known for a series devoted to storefront mannequins, integrated into the city through a subtle play of reflections and superpositions. This exploration of gaze and presence gave birth to an art book published in 2021. Subsequently, intrigued by the singular aesthetics of collectible dolls and Japanese figurines, he continues this reflection by staging them in the streets of Paris and other European capitals. Through framing, light and composition, these inanimate models acquire a troubling, almost lifelike presence, questioning our relationship to illusion and projection.
New series – Walls of legends
This series pays homage to iconic figures who have shaped history, music, cinema and popular culture. Each portrait, reduced to essentials, captures in a few powerful contrasts an identity immediately recognizable. Created with contemporary digital tools and then transposed into an aesthetics of stencil, the works belong to the street art tradition, between spontaneity and mastery of gesture. Deep black and raw surfaces evoke direct intervention on the wall, while imperfections and textures reinforce their urban character. Between collective memory and visual expression, this series offers a timeless reading of icons who continue to inhabit our imagination.
Edition & Manufacturing
Each work is offered in a limited edition of 8 numbered copies + 4 artist’s proofs (A.P.), signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. The prints are produced on aluminum with integrated rear mounting. Printing on luminous white vinyl, mounted between two aluminum plates, with soft UV- and humidity-resistant lamination, guaranteeing excellent durability, great longevity, color stability and a modern, contemporary rendering.
Parcours
Since 2014, David Law participates in around twenty contemporary art fairs per year in France and Europe. He is also the photographer and videographer for several organizers of contemporary art fairs. In parallel with his visual activity, he develops a body of work as author and musician including 3 novels, a collection of short stories, a graphic novel, a photo book and 5 self-produced CDs. A singer-guitarist, he currently performs with the group FRENZY.
