Anthonie Keizer (1897 -1961 ) - Paddestoelen

Antony Keizer was a painter, draftsman and restorer. However, at first he was a shopkeeper. From 1925 he was also a painter, largely self-taught. He did take short lessons in Amsterdam from J.H. Jurres (circa 1915) and he was influenced by André Idserda.

In 1927 Antony Keizer became a member of the guilds Sint Lucas and in 1929 of Arti et Amicitiae, both in Amsterdam, where he also regularly exhibited.

He worked for most of his life in Meppel; between 1942 and 1947 he lived in Gildehaus near Bentheim. In the late 1920s he spent summers in Giethoorn, together with Piet Zwiers. He also often collaborated with Albert Torie. Antony made regular foreign trips, including to France, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Germany.

Keizer painted and drew mainly landscapes and exhibited at various exhibitions of the Drenthe Painters. In 1954 he was a cofounder of the Drenthe Painters’ Association, of which he remained a member until his death.
