Detailed devotional terracotta sculpture of a seated Mary with the Child Jesus. The sculpture features refined drapery, classical facial features, and stands on a hexagonal base.

Executed in hand-pressed hollow terracotta and finished with a warm patina that imitates old wood/bronze. The underside reveals the natural red-orange terracotta shard well.

This sculpture is executed in the Neorenaissance style with strong influences from Neobarok. It is a typical example of the neostyles from the early 20th century. In this period artists and religious workshops drew on the vocabulary of the classical Renaissance and Baroque.

Renaissance influences:
The calm, reserved face of Mary with a classical middle parting and almond-shaped eyes.
The triangular, balanced composition of the seated figure with the Child on her lap.

Baroque elements:
The heavy, dynamic drapery of the garment. The deep folds catch the light and create a lot of shadow and movement.

The intimate and natural interaction between mother and child.
The sculpture combines the balance of the Italian Renaissance with the mobility and drama of the Baroque, processed into a high-quality devotional image for indoor display.
