Description from the seller

Rare first edition of the fundamental treatise on medical diagnosis in which Pierre-Adolphe Piorry (1794-1879) introduces the invention of the plessimeter and the technique of mediated percussion. A work of primary importance for the history of medicine, which earned its author the Montyon Prize.
Cf. Garrison / Morton, 2675.

Piorry, De la percussion médiate et des signes obtenus à l'aide de ce nouveau moyen d'exploration, dans les maladies des organes thoraciques et abdominaux, Paris, J. S. Chaudé et J.-B. Baillière, 1828.

Pp.: X, 336. COMPLETE, with 2 folded plates out of text engraved in copper by Ambroise Tardieu.

A specimen with plates in overall good condition, with slight foxing and damp stains. Usual signs of use and time, with small tears and creases to the plates.
Present is the ownership stamp of the private, now extinct, library of the physician-surgeon Gennaro Bertolini on the front free endpaper and a handwritten possession note.

Solid contemporary half-leather binding with gold-tooled spine, showing noticeable losses. White endpapers.
