1 volume (out of 2) in-folio (40.5 x 25 cm), marbled calf (period binding), spine with raised bands ornamented, title and volume labels in morocco, red edges, [2]-xxix-[1]-767 pages (complete volume). Volume II missing, corners worn, headcaps rubbed, hinge at the tail of the upper board split, leather missing from one corner of the lower board. Overall good condition.

Illustrated edition with a frontispiece portrait engraved by Gustav Andreas Wolfgang and a large in-text vignette by Fritzsch.
Greek text and Latin translation printed in two columns.

Dion Cassius, full Latin name Lucius Claudius Cassius Dio, born circa 163 in Nicaea (Bithynia) where he died circa 235, was a Roman politician and historian who wrote in Greek, allied with the emperors Septimius Severus and Severus Alexander in the early 3rd century.

Suffect consul in 205, the consul for the year in 229 with Emperor Severus Alexander, he also held several provincial governorships, notably in Africa in 222.
