Sætre Kjeks / Walt Disney – Mickey Mouse, Minnie & Pluto Advertising Tin – Norway – c. 1935

Rare early Norwegian Sætre Kjeks advertising tin decorated with pre-war Walt Disney characters, dating from the 1930s, most likely around 1935.

The oval hinged tin was produced for Sætre Kjeksfabrikk and is richly lithographed with early versions of Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Pluto.
The decoration consists of a series of humorous school scenes. Mickey and the other characters are shown teaching, studying and interacting with a globe and blackboards.

One of the blackboards carries the Norwegian advertising slogan:
“Mickey Mouse liker Sætre Kjeks”
(“Mickey Mouse likes Sætre biscuits”)

Another scene carries the Sætre name, and the side decoration is clearly marked “WALT DISNEY”.

A surviving contemporary example of this exact advertising type is documented with the same slogan and Disney characters, confirming its connection with Sætre's early Disney advertising.

The figures have the highly distinctive early-1930s Disney appearance, with Mickey's elongated facial profile, thin limbs, large shoes and the early character designs of Minnie and Pluto.

This places the tin within the first major period of international Disney merchandising, making it an interesting crossover collectible between:

- Norwegian advertising history
- Scandinavian packaging design
- Sætre industrial history
- pre-war lithographed tinware

Historical context
Sætre was one of Norway's principal biscuit manufacturers and used decorative reusable tins extensively as both packaging and advertising.

During the 1930s, Disney characters had become internationally recognizable advertising figures, and Sætre was among the Scandinavian companies to use Mickey Mouse and associated characters in branded promotional material.

The Norwegian text and Sætre branding make this a particularly interesting regional example of early licensed Disney merchandising.

Condition
Authentic unrestored vintage condition with substantial age-related wear.
The tin is complete with its original hinged lid.
Condition includes:
- extensive wear to the lithographed decoration
- significant rubbing and colour loss, particularly on the lid
- scratches and surface marks
- areas of oxidation and discoloration
- edge wear
- minor corrosion/rust
- general patina consistent with approximately 90 years of age

Despite the wear, many important details remain clearly recognizable, including Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, the globe, school scenes, Sætre advertising text and the Walt Disney marking.

No repainting or restoration is known.

The condition is clearly visible in the photographs, which form an integral part of the description.
