Particle
140x100
Particle is a painting series exploring light as something granular — no longer a smooth field but a scatter of countless small points, each one holding its own tiny charge of color. Each work centers on a soft luminous body that appears to be built out of drifting matter: a cloud of pigment suspended in space, gathering into a dense core and dispersing outward until the individual particles blur into pure atmosphere. The effect sits somewhere between the cosmic and the microscopic — a nebula, a field of static, a slow rain of color caught mid-fall.
The works are in conversation with James Turrell's investigations of perceptual space, and draw on the chromatic fields of Mark Rothko, the saturated immersions of Yves Klein, the atmospheric installations of Olafur Eliasson, the pigment work of Anish Kapoor, the color meditations of Josef Albers, and the soft gradients of Wolfgang Tillmans' abstract photograms — artists for whom color, edge, and transition carry the weight that line and form do elsewhere. Something of Yayoi Kusama's obsessive fields of dots and Vija Celmins' quiet, particulate night skies also sits in the background — a lineage of makers interested in the way many small marks can accumulate into a single luminous whole.
The base of each work is built entirely in acrylic paint on canvas, using a custom-built painting contraption of my own design — a setup loosely inspired by old silk-screen equipment. The initial composition is laid down through hand-cut plastic templates in simple geometric shapes — circles, ovals, rectangles — used to place the first fields of saturated color directly onto the canvas. From there the work returns to the same DIY apparatus, where a system of soft brushes moves vertically and horizontally across the surface, blending and refining the painted areas over many mechanical passes until the pigment thins to near-transparency and the white of the canvas beneath begins to glow through.
Once this luminous ground is complete, the particulate layer is built on top in ink — sprayed, stippled, and worked through shifting dotted stencils in many overlapping passes, each stencil moved slightly between applications so the dots vary in size, density, and clustering. The result is a granular skin of ink suspended above the glowing color field beneath, a scatter of matter caught in the light. A heavy protective varnish finishes each work with a glossy, reflective skin that deepens the sense of looking into rather than at the surface — an archival finish suited to long-term collection and display in contemporary interiors, whether in a private home, a design-forward space, or a gallery setting.
Signed original contemporary abstract painting on canvas.
Particle is a series about light as substance — color broken down into its smallest visible units, and the quiet way a cloud of tiny points can hold together into something that glows.
Shipping:
The work is delivered without a frame (professional packaging, rolled in a tube). it can easily be restretched by a professional or on your own, this is also cheaper then the otherwise increased cost of shipping when sending paintings stretched

Disclaimer:
Process photos included in the listing show studies and works in progress, as well as close up photos of showing the structure of the canvas.
