Chris Chelios is a former American ice hockey player and is considered one of the best defensemen in NHL history. He was known for his immense toughness, leadership, defensive strength, and an exceptionally long career at the highest level. Chelios played over 25 years in the NHL and was still a key contributor even at an advanced age.
During his career he played for the Montreal Canadiens, the Chicago Blackhawks, the Detroit Red Wings, and briefly for the Atlanta Thrashers. His greatest successes came with the Montreal Canadiens and the Detroit Red Wings, with whom he won a total of three Stanley Cups (1986, 2002, and 2008).
Chris Chelios was awarded the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman three times and was an NHL All-Star eleven times in total. He was also repeatedly selected to the NHL First and Second All-Star Teams. With the United States national team, he participated in numerous international tournaments as well as several Olympic Games and won the 1996 World Cup of Hockey. In 2013, Chelios was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and is still regarded as one of the greatest American hockey players of all time.
