Chawan - Tsuji Azan - 20th century

Artist: Tsuji Azan (辻阿山) – A highly acclaimed Kyo-ware potter based in the Higashiyama district of Kyoto. Coming from a distinguished family of artists (his father is the renowned Tsuji Kansai), his work beautifully reflects the refinement and elegance of traditional Japanese ceramic art.
The tomobako lid is explicitly marked as 窯変 (Yōhen), indicating an "accidentally transformed" kiln-mutation glaze.

Two features make this chawan very special. The dark, heavily textured, rustic appearance seen here is quite different from the other works of this master. So it is very unique. Moreover, the nicely coloured waves on the rough surface are in contrast with the inside, silky, smooth glaze, which makes this chawan an elegant, wabi-sabi product.

Accessories: Original, signed Japanese paulownia wood box (Tomobako), featuring the artist's handwritten calligraphy and official seal. This guarantees the authenticity of the piece and significantly enhances its collectible value.
