Description from the seller
Icon Stile Antico on Wood and Gold Background - "Angelo Musicante" by Beato Angelico (15th Century)
Refined and elegant work in the sacred icon style, created with art print applied to a wooden panel and embellished with a rich gold background worked with punch along the decorative edges.
The work depicts the Singing Angel with tambourine, a famous subject taken from the 15th-century masterpiece by the Renaissance master Beato Angelico (fra Giovanni da Fiesole), whose original is housed in the Museum of the Basilica of Santa Maria delle Grazie in San Giovanni Valdarno.
Artistic details and craftsmanship:
Subject: Stylized Angel in a finely decorated green tunic, with multicolored wings, punched halo, and tambourine ornate between the hands.
Background: Gold background with an effect of gold leaf, with a perimeter frame imprinted by punch, rich in details and veins recalling the aesthetic of Florentine 14th- and 15th-century icons.
Support: Solid wooden panel with dark back and a metal hook already prepared for wall mounting.
Technical specifications:
Height: 32 cm
Width: 16 cm
Thickness: 1.3 cm
Weight: 320 g
Condition:
Vintage/antique item in overall good condition. Shows light natural signs of aging on the gold surface and along the edges of the wood, which enhance its antique appearance and retro charm (please refer to the detailed photos for a precise assessment of the conservation state).
A perfect piece for collectors of sacred art, Florentine gilded icons, and Renaissance enthusiasts.
