Description from the seller

An extraordinary discovery, of institutional level, for collectors of European post-impressionism of the 20th century. This magnificent oil painting on panel, with rich texture, is the officially documented work of the academic master Jean B. Ajmone (Jean Baptiste Ajmone), entitled "Dwelling in the Earth". The painting represents a pastoral realism masterpiece, depicting a serene landscape with cows grazing near a country house under a broad and evocative sky. Ajmone's technique is based on thick, painterly brushstrokes that masterfully model the land, vegetation, and moving clouds. On the back, the work presents its authentic and complete documentation: the original gallery/historic exhibition label of the "Italian Art Exhibition" (Lot no. 55), hand-signed and annotated with the official title and dimensions (0.30 x 0.15 cm). Displayed in a heavy antique black carved wooden frame in a museum-style with oval relief edges, it is a fully documented investment piece, ready for elite collections. Title: "Dwelling in the Land" (historic title). Medium: oil on panel. Period: early 20th century (circa 1920-1940). Provenance: private collection / official participant in the "Italian Art Exhibition" (exhibition label on the back). Signature: Signed on the back on the official exhibition label ("Jean B. Ajmone" / "Dwelling in the Land"). Era: 20th century / 1920 - 1940. Condition: Excellent / Very good (The panel is structurally perfect, colors are fresh and healthy. The back preserves the historical label intact, a rarity of documentary significance). Jean B. Ajmone (Giovanni Battista Ajmone) was a renowned Italian academic painter active between the early and mid-20th century. Known for his rigorous technique and participation in official national exhibitions, Ajmone specialized in post-impressionist pastoral landscapes. His distinctive use of thick pigment layers (impasto heavy) allows him to model light and earth with exceptional texture. This documented masterpiece, "Dwelling in the Land", perfectly embodies his distinctive style and academic training, as evidenced by the participation certificate to the original show kept on the back. Painting dimensions cm 14 x 29 cm. The lot will be properly packed and shipped with contracted couriers and online tracking. For this lot, shipments outside the European Community are not performed.
