Bernard Aubertin (1934-2015) - Tableau Clous

This work belongs to his most famous, iconic, and legally catalogued series: the "Tableau Clous" (Nail Paintings).
For Aubertin, the canvas is an energetic laboratory. In this series, he applies a dense, calculated, and rhythmic forest of real metal nails directly onto a rigid wooden panel, completely immersed in his characteristic Monochrome Fire Red. The monochrome surface becomes an active structural field in which the spatial repetition of the nails generates optical and dynamic vibration. Depending on the room’s lighting, the nails cast varying shadows, breaking the two-dimensionality of traditional painting to absorb and structure the physical space and ambient light. A rare and impactful work, with spectacular visual aesthetics, ideal for collections of modern architecture.
