AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

First Edition of Nicholas Nickleby, by Charles Dickens. Published by Chapman and Hall, London, 1839. A complete suite of plates by Phiz. 624p.p. 8vo. Many of Smith’s text points here present. Bound from the parts.

Bound in a fine full tan calf binding. To the spine are raised bands, and the title, tooled in gilt. The boards with ornate gilt tooling. Original tan endpapers. A very smart armorial bookplate to the front pastedown.

Externally it is in fair condition, with the calf and gilt bright, and the hinges very firm. A jot of extraneous light rubbing in places. Professional repair to the lower hinge.

Internally collated as fully complete, and aside from the typical browning to some of the plates, it remains pleasingly bright.

Overall, to find an example of this title is indeed rare, bound in such a pleasing binding. One of the best-loved works of the C19th, this scarce example would grace any collection, and it comes highly recommended.
