Romano Mussolini’s Clown is a 1980s to 1990s mixed-media portrait on canvas, 40 × 60 cm (63 × 83 cm with the frame), signed and originating from Italy, sold with the frame, original edition, multicoloured, in good condition, with an official certificate of authenticity on the back.
Description from the seller
Splendid and fascinating work by the famous Italian master Romano Mussolini (1927–2006), esteemed painter and renowned jazz pianist, the youngest son of Benito Mussolini.
The painting depicts the most iconic, sought-after and historically significant subject of his entire artistic production: the face of a Clown. The work stands out for an exceptional visual and emotional impact, characterized by fluid brushstrokes and diffuse shading on a dark and abstract background. The contrast between the cool tones of the bluish face, the hair bright in an orange hue, and the intense red of the lips and nose gives the character a deep and poetic melancholy, typical of the master's dramatic expressiveness.
