Alvaro Danti (1911-1985) - Marina

The painting depicted is an oil landscape of the sea or a coastal scene, characterized by a strongly expressionist or impasto-like style. The author, Danti Alvaro, used rapid, thick, overlapping brushstrokes, laying the paint on in a nearly scratched manner (a technique reminiscent of works done with a spatula or alla prima) to give dynamism to the sky and volume to the coast. Danti was an important exponent of the Livorno school of painting of the twentieth century (the so-called Labronici painters). Having frequented Cafiero Filippelli's studio and initially looked to masters such as Giovanni Bartolena, the artist developed a unique and highly recognizable language.
