This pavilion‑style Yukimi‑dōrō (雪見灯籠) is a classic Japanese cast‑iron decorative object from the Taisho‑Showa period. Cast in one‑piece using traditional iron‑casting techniques, it is an excellent decorative piece for gardens, tea‑rooms or entrance halls. It can be used with candles for atmospheric lighting as well as for interior display.
It follows the authentic form of Japanese pavilion‑style Yukimi‑dōrō. The top is a pointed pyramidal roof cast to imitate layered traditional roofing texture. The roof apex features a cast finial with original iron hanging‑ring, suitable for floor‑standing display or suspension. Four sides of the lantern are fully decorated with swastika‑pattern open‑work lattice, creating airy, multi‑layered perforated details. The side panels allow light to pass through. Four splayed feet provide stable support and good air circulation for candle use.
The whole piece is cast in one‑piece, solid and sturdy, with no welded joints. Internal electric wiring and lamp socket are later additions, not original period components.
The surface carries a naturally developed, thick and smooth aged iron patina with strong antique metallic character. When lit, light diffuses beautifully through the pierced open‑work, creating a wonderful atmospheric effect. A highly attractive Japanese decorative lantern.
Due to age, the iron surface shows natural oxidation and wear from usage. The lantern is complete, with no cracks and no repairs. Overall condition is good for its period.
