Artist Biography:

Antonio Peris-Carbonell, born in 1957 in Valencia (Spain). In 1972 he enrolled in a drawing and painting academy, in the class of drawing from antique plaster models. From 1979 to 1981 he participated in National Painting Contests, earning seven first prizes, one of them in sculpture. By 1981, he was in full expressionist crisis. He painted the cemetery series. In 1982-1983 he continued with spiritual-content themes, though more concrete, as he studied the life of the character to be treated and interpreted it in a collection. In some works he uses graphic and calligraphic description to transfer the character’s thought to the painting. He produced the following collections: P. Luis Amigó, collection of 52 works. San Pedro Nolasco, collection of 18 works. Good and Evil, collection of 10 works. The little flowers of Saint Francis of Assisi, collection of 25 works. Part of the above collections, belonging to private entities, was presented to the public; in an exhibition of 90 works, 1980-1982. He moved to live in his house-studio in El Puíg (Valencia). In 1985 he held his first solo exhibition in Valencia, the same year he exhibited at the Alfama Gallery in Madrid, and thereafter he held exhibitions in numerous galleries both in Spain and in other countries. In 2011, he completed the large iron-and-steel panel Christ Through Time (25 m2) for the Hermitage of the Virgin of Tremedal in Teruel, Spain, as well as a panel of the same dimensions of Saint Francis and the Wolf of Gubbio for the Franciscan Fathers of Cocentaina, Alicante, Spain. That same year he visited the United States and Italy and traveled to Fortaleza, Brazil, to inaugurate an exhibition of his paintings, Peris Carbonell, a Master of Colour. His work was very well received by Brazilian architects and engineers and he is considering future collaboration projects. The Peris Carbonell Museum opened its collection to the public in July 2012 in Palma de Mallorca, Spain where paintings and sculptures produced from 1999 onward are exhibited.
