A particularly fine vintage Omega Seamaster Calendar Automatic from around 1960, fitted with the automatic Omega caliber 503. The movement bears serial number 17,092,585, which dates this Omega to circa 1960. The Seamaster is one of Omega's most iconic model lines, and this early Calendar version combines the elegant styling of a classic dress watch with the characteristic look of the early Seamaster generation.

A notable detail of this example is the large raised Seamaster hippocampus medallion on the case back. This so-called large hippocampus or “Seamonster” variant is a less common and beloved version among collectors, appearing on early Seamaster references, including the 2849.

The watch has a beautiful, pronounced vintage appearance. The light dial has over the years developed a very strong and distinctive patina, with warm discolorations and a lovely speckled pattern across the surface. In combination with the gold-colored applied hour markers, dauphine hands, and the gold-colored case, this gives the watch an almost unique look. It is precisely this natural aging that gives the piece a lot of personality and makes it a particularly attractive watch for lovers of authentic vintage timepieces.

Condition:

The watch is in a beautiful and notably characterful vintage condition with signs of wear appropriate to its age. The case shows visible wear and localized abrasion to the gold finish. One of the most striking features is the beautifully aged dial. Over the decades it has developed a pronounced, warm patina with natural discolorations and spotting. Far from detracting from the look, this gives the watch a very authentic and individual vintage character. Not a pristine restored example, but a Seamaster that proudly shows its age and history in a particularly attractive way.

The large raised hippocampus medallion on the back is still clearly present and forms an appealing detail of this less common version of the Seamaster 2849.

The automatic Omega Cal. 503 movement runs and has a good power reserve. The service history is unknown.
