Herman Bieling (1871-1964) - Marrakesh

Bieling pursued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Rotterdam. He was, from 1917 to 1927, a member and co-founder of De Branding from Rotterdam, an avant-garde grouping of artists. Afterwards he was also a co-founder of the Circle of Visual Artists R 33, of which he also became the first secretary. In that period he produced a great deal of Cubist work. Topics included landscapes, river and seascapes, still lifes and people. Bieling undertook many travels, among others to Corsica, Brittany, Morocco, the United States and Rome.
