Brain Food is a large painting from 2021 measuring 180 × 200 cm, and it belongs to the most characteristic works of the artist from the past six years. In this work the shapes, figures, lines and pronounced color contrasts come together, which are so recognizable for his visual language.

At first glance, the enormous energy of the painting stands out. Turquoise, pink, green and purple form an almost explosive world in which figures and abstract shapes move through each other. The black background is filled with signs, scribbles, lines and small details. It seems as if you are looking straight into the artist's mind: thoughts following one another, memories, impressions, emotions and daily events that are constantly in motion.

This also gives the title Brain Food more and more meaning.

The longer you look at the painting, the more elements become recognizable. Some shapes evoke people, animals or objects from daily life, while others seem to have arisen entirely from the imagination. The figures appear to touch each other, overlap and sometimes even emerge from one another. Nothing stands completely apart from anything else.

Delivery

The work is currently stretched on a cradled frame. Because of the generous size, the canvas is carefully removed from the frame for shipping and professionally rolled up, so that it can be shipped safely and efficiently.

The buyer who would prefer to receive it stretched can contact the seller in advance. In consultation the painting can be stretched on behalf of the buyer and collected in Northern Belgium.

About the artist

Christian van Hedel (1974) is a Dutch contemporary artist, currently based in Northern Belgium. He has been active as a freelance artist for over twenty years and has developed over that period a highly recognizable, personal visual language in which abstraction, figuration, graffiti and pop art come together.

His work is characterized by powerful colors, organic forms, imaginative figures and a layered linework. His paintings have found their way to collectors at home and abroad. In addition to international sales and exhibitions, Van Hedel has received various distinctions for his work and his art has been included in a permanent collection in China, among other things. In 2020 he was also named Art Master in Taiwan.

Van Hedel studied at the Utrecht School of the Arts (HKU). Despite the various influences, his style has become increasingly personal and immediately recognizable over the years.

It is precisely that recognizable visual language that makes Brain Food a representative work within his oeuvre.
